Jonah Westerman is an Assistant Professor of Art History and Department Chair at Purchase College, State University of New York. His research focuses on global histories of performance since the mid-20th century, emphasizing art’s social role and critical capabilities. He explores boundaries between art and life, embodied experiences, and institutional contexts of reception. He holds a BA from Harvard University and a PhD from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
Recent roles include the Chester Dale Senior Fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2016–17) and AHRC Postdoctoral Researcher at Tate (2014–2016).
