Jon Witten

Jon Witten is a Teaching Professor at Tufts University's Department of Urban & Environmental Policy & Planning (UEP) and also teaches Land Use Law and American Indian Law at Boston College Law School. He coordinates the Dual Degree Program between UEP and Boston College Law School. His academic roles include teaching Land Use Planning, Natural Resource Policy, and Local Government Finance.

• Education: J.D. from Suffolk University, M.R.P. from Cornell University, B.A. in Urban Affairs from Boston College.

His research focuses on land use planning, local government law, and natural resources policy. He has advised cities, towns, and Native American tribes on mitigating land development impacts on water systems and has published extensively on environmental law and land-use strategies. He co-authored Massachusetts Real Estate and contributed to MCLE publications.

His publications span environmental law, land-use policy, and tribal governance, emphasizing practical legal frameworks for sustainable development. He has argued cases in Massachusetts courts and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Professional activities include serving as a Reporter for Planning & Environmental Law (1997–2015). His teaching spans courses like Special Topics in American Indian Law and Local Government Finance.
