Jon Swords

Jon Swords is an Associate Professor in Creative Industries Research at the University of York's School of Arts and Creative Technologies. His research examines working practices, geographies of creative work, and policy interventions in creative industries, with a focus on screen industries and virtual production.

Key research areas include the evolution of virtual production technologies in film and television, spatial policy development for creative industries, and impacts of digital disruption on labor markets. His work combines economic geography with industry engagement to address structural challenges in creative sectors.

Swords leads projects on equity in virtual production and coordinates the Screen Industries Growth Network. He teaches business and data analysis for creative industries and mentors student projects on media innovation and regional development.
