Jon Spruce FHEA is a Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) Product Design programme at the Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. He lectures in product design with a focus on human-centered design innovation, design processes, and visualization techniques. His academic roles include leading undergraduate design programmes and advising on curriculum development nationally and internationally.
Research interests center on enhancing design education through collaboration among academics, industry professionals, users, and consumers. Key projects involve leading multidisciplinary teams and engaging external stakeholders to bridge design research, innovation, and pedagogy. He is a member of the Design Research Hub and has exhibited works including the Liverpool World Museum Human Evolution Gallery and the George Garrett Archive Exhibition.
Jon’s work explores post-pandemic design studio practices, project-based learning, and the integration of digital tools in education. He has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed articles and conference papers, emphasizing adaptive teaching methods and industry alignment in design curricula. His research also addresses global creative economy development through participatory design in post-industrial regeneration.
