Jon Helgason is Associate Professor of Literary Studies at Lund University and former Head of Department (2019–2024) at Linnaeus University's Swedish Language Department. His research focuses on literary value, Swedish/Nordic cultural policy, and historical canon debates. He led the Swedish Research Council-funded project The Literary Paradigm of the Welfare State (2019–2023) and chairs the Swedish Council for the Arts' reading promotion reference group.

- 18th–20th Century Letter Culture: Analyzed epistolary practices as social/cultural knowledge forms.
- Censorship Studies: Explored literary censorship in Swedish public libraries and state institutions.
- Canon Formation: Examined 2006 Swedish literary canon debates and value negotiation processes.
Recent publications span 2024 keynotes on State-Literature Censorship to 2007 monographs on Anna Louisa Karsch's Correspondence. He co-edited collections on Performativity in Literature (2016) and Women's Language Before 1800 (2012).
