About
Jolijn Valk is a Dutch architect and co-founder of the Amsterdam-based architecture/design studio Urban Echoes. She graduated from the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture in 2010 with a project on a 'Living bridge' and has worked for prominent firms like SeARCH and studioninedots before establishing Urban Echoes in 2013.
The studio addresses complex challenges in architecture, art, and urban design, focusing on spatial interventions that resonate with their context. Recent research (2020 onwards) explores pandemic impacts on cities, emphasizing balance between human settlements and natural systems through 'in-between spaces' and living materials in urban design.
As an academic contributor, she participates in Dutch architecture juries, serves on aesthetics and quality commissions for municipalities, and acts as guest lecturer, examiner, and mentor at Dutch architecture schools. Since 2021, she has chaired the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects (BNA).
