John William Devine

Dr. John William Devine is a Senior Lecturer in Ethics at Swansea University's Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences, and a member of the A-STEM Sports Ethics and Integrity Group. He holds a DPhil in Political Theory from Oxford, an MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge, and a BA in Philosophy and Politics from University College Dublin.

His research focuses on political philosophy (ethics in public office, privacy, trust) and philosophy of sport (enhancement ethics, fairness). Current projects include a Routledge monograph "Ethics, Excellence, and Enhancement in Sport". Key publications span 2017-2024, with recent work on Journal of Applied Philosophy and Journal of the Philosophy of Sport.

Scientific awards include the Queen Mother Scholarship, Lechmere Essay Prize, and Law Society of Ireland's outstanding performance award. Public engagement includes BBC Radio 4's The Moral Maze, The Conversation, and international media commentary.
