John Walker

Dr John Walker is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Energy Technology Group. His research focuses on tribology, materials science, and surface engineering, with particular emphasis on friction, wear, and lubrication mechanisms in advanced materials. He has contributed to projects sponsored by the EPSRC and Royal Society, investigating topics such as cast iron tribology, electrochemical surface texturing, and automotive component durability.

Key research interests include the tribological behavior of metals and alloys under variable conditions, scuffing mechanisms in engine components, and the development of advanced surface engineering techniques. Dr. Walker has supervised PhD student Yousif Alyousif and holds external roles such as an invited speaker at the 2nd SIMS-LEIS workshop (2010) and membership in the London Technology Network (2010–2012).

His work bridges experimental tribology and materials characterization, with applications in automotive, biomedical, and industrial engineering sectors.
