John W. McArthur is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at the Brookings Institution. He co-founded the 17 Rooms initiative to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and serves as a senior adviser to the United Nations Foundation, member of Policy Horizons Canada’s Deputy Minister Steering Committee, and Novata’s Sustainability Advisory Board. His work bridges global policy, sustainable development, and economic strategy.
- Education: Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from University of British Columbia, Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School, master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.
Research Interests include global economic development, sustainable practices, African economies, global health policy, and climate action strategies. His expertise also spans graduate education frameworks for sustainable development and interdisciplinary policy solutions.
