About
John Tichy is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he has served since 1976. His research focuses on tribology, non-Newtonian fluid dynamics, and applications in MEMS and biomedical engineering.
Key research areas include:
- Tribology and lubrication theory
- Non-Newtonian and viscoelastic fluid flows
- MEMS design and energy harvesting
- Biomedical applications (hip joint replacement, aortic hemodynamics)
Recent publications highlight advancements in nanofluid lubrication, frequency upconversion for energy harvesters, and biomechanical modeling. Awards include the ASME Mayo D Hersey Award (lifetime achievement), STLE International Prize, and two ASME Best Paper awards.
He is also affiliated with the Center for Modeling, Simulation and Imaging in Medicine (CEMSIM) and has contributed to editorial leadership as former Technical Editor of the ASME Journal of Tribology.
