John Tauer is Professor of Psychology at the University of St. Thomas, specializing in intrinsic motivation, social psychology, and sports performance. He serves as Director of Jazz Studies and head basketball coach, guiding the program's historic transition from Division III to Division I.
His research examines how competition, cooperation, and goal-setting affect motivation, with current book projects focusing on youth sports psychology. Publications investigate athletic performance under pressure, media influences on athletes, and educational applications of achievement goals.
