John Tafoya is Professor of Music in Percussion at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. A former principal timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra (1999-2007), he has performed with numerous major orchestras including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
He maintains an active pedagogical practice, presenting master classes internationally and maintaining an educational website visited by thousands of percussion students monthly. His authored works include pedagogical materials on orchestral timpani repertoire and audition preparation techniques.
