John Sutton

John Sutton is the Sir John Hicks Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE). He has held visiting roles at Tokyo University, Harvard Business School, and the University of Chicago. A renowned economist, he focuses on industrial organization, globalization, and market structure. His works include seminal books like Sunk Costs and Market Structure and Competing in Capabilities.

His research spans global economic dynamics, including studies on China, India, and sub-Saharan Africa through projects like the Enterprise Map series, which profiles industries in Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique. Sutton has advised international institutions, including the World Bank and the European Union.
