About
John Stagg is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Montreal, and laboratory head at the CRCHUM since 2010. An established immunologist with over 100 scientific publications, he is recognized for identifying CD73 as a novel target in immuno-oncology. His research focuses on overcoming resistance to PD-1/CTLA-4 immune checkpoint inhibitors through novel therapeutic approaches.
Research interests include:
- Development of targeted cancer therapies via anti-tumor immune response stimulation
- Immunological mechanisms in cancer progression
- Immunology of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers
- Adenosinergic signaling pathways and tumor metabolism
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on adenosine signaling pathways (CD39/CD73), tumor microenvironment modulation, and innovative immunotherapy combinations. Trends show increasing use of multi-omics approaches and AI for target discovery.
Current grants include funding from:
- Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
- Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS)
- Terry Fox Research Institute
- Quebec Cancer Consortium
- Sabourin Family Research Chair
The Stagg Laboratory employs cutting-edge technologies including transcriptomics, flow cytometry, metabolomics, multiplex analysis, and artificial intelligence. Current team members include research associates and graduate students focusing on translational immuno-oncology.
