John Rush is an Associate Professor of Economics at Covenant College since 2016. His academic focus includes economic development, international economics, natural disasters' socioeconomic impacts, and Asian economies. He holds a Ph.D. and MA in Economics from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, a Master of International Management from Whitworth University, and a BA in Economics and AA in Liberal Studies from Whitworth and Columbia College, respectively.
Rush emphasizes integrating data literacy and ethical perspectives into economics education. His research explores the intersection of Christian thought with economic systems, particularly in globalization and disaster recovery contexts. He has presented at conferences like the Southern Economic Association and contributed to publications analyzing education post-disasters and Christian economic ethics.
His professional engagements include guest speaking at Journey Evangelical Church and academic reviews on global economic ethics. Rush’s teaching philosophy centers on mentoring students to apply economic principles to community and business roles, informed by their personal and faith-based perspectives.
Personal interests include gardening and enjoying Italian cuisine, with a particular fondness for Lapsang Souchong tea and the local Art District.
