John Rolfe is a Professor of Regional Economic Development at the School of Business and Law, CQUniversity, and a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. He leads the Centre for Regional Economies and Supply Chains. His research focuses on non-market valuation, regional development, environmental economics, and agricultural policy, particularly addressing water quality issues in the Great Barrier Reef catchments. He has secured over $7.4M in research funding and supervised numerous PhD/Master’s students.
Education: BComm (UQ), BEcon (UQ), BEcon (Hons) (UQ), PhD (UNSW).
Research Interests: Non-market valuation, regional development, environmental economics, agricultural adoption, cost-effectiveness analysis, and supply chain coordination. He has authored over 115 refereed publications and contributes to policy through roles like Independent Chair of the Gladstone Regional Community Consultative Committee and member of the Great Barrier Reef Independent Science Panel.
Grants & Awards: Over 40 major projects since 2010, including ARC grants and industry partnerships. Recipient of the 2014 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Research and 2021 AARES Distinguished Fellow.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Centre for Regional Economies and Supply Chains, collaborating on projects like the Great Barrier Reef Science Consensus Statement and Fitzroy Basin Report Cards.
