About
Dr. John Rex is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and concurrently serves as the Research & Stewardship Team Lead for the Omineca Region at BC Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations. He holds a BSc (Hons.) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and an MSc/PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies from UNBC.
His research integrates hydrology, aquatic ecology, and forest management, with emphases on:
- Watershed responses to climate change and disturbances (e.g., mountain pine beetle infestations)
- Salmon-driven nutrient cycling and sediment dynamics
- Riparian ecosystem management and small-stream conservation
- Biomass leachate toxicity and sustainable forestry practices
Dr. Rex's publications focus on climate-hydrology interactions, forest disturbance impacts, and aquatic biogeochemistry, utilizing field experiments and modeling to address resource management challenges. He actively contributes to provincial forest stewardship guidelines but currently does not accept graduate students.
