John Ray is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Music Program Director at Cumberland University, Lebanon, TN. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Alabama and has taught at institutions including Austin Peay State University and Belmont University. His expertise spans voice pedagogy, choral conducting, and church music ministry.

His research focuses on holistic singer development, integrating technical, psychological, and artistic training. As a performer, he has collaborated with renowned ensembles like the Grammy-winning Nashville Symphony and toured internationally in opera, oratorio, and musical theater. He has composed original works, including the opera Flight 316, and directed over 30 staged productions.

John advises students pursuing careers in opera, Broadway, and music education. He leads music ensembles and collaborates with Nashville artists, maintaining active roles in both academic and professional music circles.
