About
John Parry is a Senior Lecturer in the BA (Hons) Animation program within the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries, and Education (ACE) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). He joined UWE in 2004 and has held a full-time position since 2006, overseeing the launch and running of the BA Animation program.
His educational qualifications are:
- BA in Graphic Design, Liverpool Polytechnic (1987)
- MA in Animation, Royal College of Art (1992)
Parry's research and teaching expertise centers on animation, with a focus on short form and super short form animation, experimental and auteur filmmaking, and commercial animation. He also explores cameraless film, dramaturgy, the avant-garde movement, and the German Ulm school. His teaching covers dramaturgy and story in short form animation, animation forms, and the aesthetics and rationale for short form film productions.
Prior to UWE, Parry worked commercially as a freelance director and with Picasso Pictures in London for a decade. He also taught at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in the USA from 1998 to 2001.
