John Narayan is a Senior Lecturer in European and International Studies at King’s College London, based in the Department of European & International Studies within the School of Politics & Economics. He joined King’s in 2019 after holding a lectureship at Birmingham City University and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Warwick. His PhD was awarded by the University of Nottingham.
His research focuses on intersections of globalization, racialization, and anti-racist politics. Key areas include transnational Black Power movements, racial capitalism, and anti-imperialism. He has published in journals like Third World Quarterly and The Sociological Review, and authored John Dewey: The Global Public and its Problems (2016). He co-edited volumes on European cosmopolitanism and anti-racism.
Narayan chairs The Institute of Race Relations and serves on the Race & Class editorial board. He leads the Contemporary Marxism Research Group and co-founded the Critical Global Capitalism Studies Collective at King’s. His teaching includes courses on resisting racial capitalism and modern European history.
