John Modern is Arthur & Katherine Shadek Professor of Religious Studies at Franklin & Marshall College. His research examines intersections of religion, technology, and science in American culture, with recent focus on neuroscience and secularism.
Major works include Neuromatic: A Particular History of Religion and the Brain (2021) exploring cognitive science's impact on religious concepts, and Secularism in Antebellum America (2011) analyzing 19th-century technological imaginaries.
