John Lough

John Lough is a Reader in Pharmaceutical Analysis at the University of Sunderland, affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Wellbeing and the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He serves as Programme Leader for the MSc Drug Discovery and Development course, integrating his extensive industry and academic experience into both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

• Over 30 years of teaching modern pharmaceutical sciences
• Supervised 31 PhD students (21 as principal supervisor)
• Authored >80 research publications
• Secured £750K in external research funding

Research Focus:
Specializes in liquid chromatography (LC) and chiral separations for pharmaceutical applications, with emphasis on:

• Modern LC column technology
• Extreme selectivity development
• Enantiomer analysis
• Pharmaceutical quality control

• Bioanalysis of drugs in biological fluids

• Authored 5 books including Chiral Liquid Chromatography
