John Layer

John Layer is Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Evansville's School of Engineering and Computer Science. With 20+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and project management, he specializes in machine design, finite element analysis, and cognitive systems engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from University of Louisville, MBA from Arizona State, and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Evansville.

His research spans enterprise agility, biomechanical ergonomics, human performance in manufacturing, and engineering entrepreneurship. Recent projects include wheelchair suspension design and international capstone projects. Layer holds patents for conveyor systems and adjustable wheelchair suspensions, and has received teaching awards from the School of Engineering.
