John L. Sherry is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication, Michigan State University (MSU). He is affiliated with the MSU Cognitive Science Program, the Purdue University Graduate Faculty, and the MSU Games for Entertainment and Learning Lab. Research Focus: Dr. Sherry’s work centers on two primary areas: (1) educational video games, exploring cognitive processes during gameplay and their variation by gender, personality, and cognitive skill, with a goal of creating barrier-free games for curricular integration; and (2) a dynamic systems approach to communication, utilizing modeling, experimentation, and simulation. His research intersects mass media effects, computational communication, and educational technology.
Professional Roles: He co-founded and served as past Chair of the Video Game Special Interest Group at the International Communication Association and was an Associate Editor of Communication Theory.
