John Keenan

Dr. John Keenan is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Newman University, specializing in PGCE Secondary English teacher training. He holds a PhD, MA, PGCHE, PGCE, and BA(Hons). His career includes roles at Leicester, Coventry, Warwick, and Worcester universities, focusing on English, media, and Further Education teaching. He leads the PGCE English programme and teaches on Master’s and doctoral programmes.

Research interests center on teacher training mentoring, emotional responses to media, and college-based higher education. He co-authored Your Secondary School Direct Toolkit (2023) and contributed to significant works like CBHE and Its Identities (2020). He serves on the ARPCE committee and is a HEA Fellow.

Publications span mentoring dynamics in Ghana, professional doctorates as activism, and epistemological critiques of Western theory. His work emphasizes FE sector vitalities and innovative pedagogical strategies.
