John K. Moore Jr. is a Professor of Spanish and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He specializes in Hispanic cultural and literary history, pilgrimage studies, and medieval studies. His research explores topics such as the Camino de Santiago, ethnic studies, and colonial legal cases.
He holds a BA from Sewanee: The University of the South, an MAT from Middle Tennessee State University, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His work includes a special issue on Santiago pilgrimages and a critical edition of the Libro de los huéspedes, recognized by the MLA. His 2021 book on José Soller received the Santiago de Compostela Prize.
Moore advises student research in UAB’s Honors Program and leads educational pilgrimages in Spain. He plans to guide a 2023 group along the Camino de Santiago.
