John Golding

Dr. John Golding is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle, affiliated with the School of Environmental and Life Sciences (Applied Sciences). He works at the Centre of Excellence for Market Access at Ourimbah, providing practical solutions for horticultural industries in postharvest management and market access research.

Dr. Golding holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia and has extensive professional experience as a Principal Research Scientist at NSW Department of Primary Industries. His research focuses on postharvest quality management of horticultural crops including citrus, blueberries and cherries, collaborating closely with industry partners.

His research interests span postharvest physiology, food preservation technologies, disease control in fruits, and sustainable storage methods. Current projects investigate innovative treatments like UV-C irradiation, low-pressure storage, and natural antifungal agents to extend shelf-life while maintaining quality.

Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on solving practical industry problems through molecular analysis of postharvest disorders, development of edible coatings, and optimization of non-thermal treatments. Research trends show increasing integration of transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches to understand physiological mechanisms in fruits.

Dr. Golding co-supervises postgraduate students in horticulture and food science, with research projects funded by Horticulture Australia Ltd. He has authored numerous international refereed papers and book chapters, regularly presenting findings at technical conferences worldwide.
