John Fu

John Fu is a Professor in the Department of Community Health at Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences, where he has held a faculty appointment since 2001. He also serves as Chair of the Department of Community Health (2022–2025) and previously held academic positions at Washington University School of Medicine and Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice.

Dr. Fu is a biostatistician with expertise in categorical, longitudinal, and survival data analysis. His research applies advanced statistical methods to public health challenges, including major depression, substance use disorders, and social determinants of health. Recent work focuses on person-centered approaches to address social justice in vulnerable populations, such as tailored smoking cessation strategies for low-income individuals and disparities in financial access.

Dr. Fu’s research has been funded by prestigious institutions like the National Institutes of Health, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and Alzheimer’s Association. He has mentored students at all academic levels and taught courses in biostatistics, regression analysis, and multilevel/longitudinal data analysis for over two decades.

His recent publications span topics such as cognition in substance users, financial behavior in banking, and healthcare accessibility in China. These works employ geospatial analysis, longitudinal modeling, and survey-based insights to inform policy and improve population health outcomes.
