John Evers

John Evers is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Operations Research & Engineering Management at Southern Methodist University (SMU). With over 40 years of industry experience as a Lead Systems Engineer and Program Manager, he specializes in systems development across defense and commercial sectors, including vehicle systems, RF systems, and software-intensive systems. His work spans system lifecycle support and technical management.

He is a retired Navy Commander with 21 years in the Reserves, where he developed the Navy’s initial Lean Six Sigma Black Belt curriculum. Currently, he chairs SAE International’s G-47 Systems Engineering Committee and contributes to standards like SAE1001 and IEEE 15288.

His research focuses on systems engineering, project technical management, Lean, and Six Sigma. He has received awards such as the SAE James Crawford Outstanding Achievement Award (2014) and recognition for Best Paper at INCOSE 2003, alongside various Navy Medals.
