About
Professor John Dylan Haynes is a full Professor at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, based at the Berlin Center for Advanced Neuroimaging (BCAN). His current institutional engagements include Principal Investigator for two active DFG projects and Participating Scientist in the Science of Intelligence (SCIoI) Cluster of Excellence.
Research Interests: Professor Haynes specializes in cognitive neuroscience using fMRI and computational modeling. Key areas include decision-making under uncertainty (neural 'belief state' representations), visual masking mechanisms, weight regulation neurobiology, Parkinson's disease motor control, and ADHD cognitive processes. His work integrates deep learning with neuroimaging for disease diagnostics and predictive analytics, emphasizing translational clinical applications.
Grant Portfolio: He currently leads 'The role of neural belief state representations in decision-making under uncertainty' and 'Methods toolbox and infrastructure for predictive analytics'. His extensive completed portfolio includes leadership in the 3-Tesla MRI upgrade, participation in NeuroCure and Berlin School of Mind and Brain graduate programs, and subproject leadership in ADHD and intention-switching research. This sustained funding supports robust student training opportunities.
Laboratory Environment: The Berlin Center for Advanced Neuroimaging (BCAN) provides state-of-the-art fMRI infrastructure for cutting-edge research. BCAN's collaborative framework enables interdisciplinary work across neuroscience, computer science, and clinical medicine through partnerships with major Berlin research initiatives.
