John Durant

John Durant is an Adjunct Professor in MIT's Science, Technology, & Society (STS) Program and Director of the MIT Museum. He holds a BA (1972) and PhD (1977) from Queens’ College, Cambridge in Natural Sciences and History/Philosophy of Science respectively. His career includes leadership roles at London's Science Museum, Imperial College London, and At-Bristol science center.

Research focuses on public perceptions of life sciences/biotechnology, science policy consultation, and the role of museums in science engagement. Founder/editor of Public Understanding of Science journal, with extensive publications in science history and communication.

• At-Bristol Science Centre CEO (2000-2005)
• MIT Museum Director since 2005

Expertise bridges historical scholarship (19th/20th century biology debates) and applied science communication strategies.
