John Doran

Professor John Doran serves as Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Health at Technological University Dublin, holding a PhD in Physics from Trinity College Dublin. He joined the institution (formerly Dublin Institute of Technology) in 1996 as a physics lecturer and progressed through leadership roles including Assistant Head of School (2003) and Head of the School of Physics, Clinical & Optometric Sciences (2009), before being awarded a professorship in 2017.

His research expertise centers on:

• Quantum semiconductor structures and nanomaterials
• Solar energy technology applications
• Plasmonic enhancement of photovoltaic systems

Professor Doran has secured major research funding from European Union Framework Programmes, Irish Research Council, European Space Agency, and Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. His work demonstrates significant performance improvements in solar energy conversion through innovative material science approaches.

He maintains strong regulatory engagement through CORU's Optical Registration Board, reflecting interdisciplinary connections between physics research and healthcare systems. Under his leadership, the Faculty has achieved substantial growth in student enrollment across scientific and health disciplines.
