Professor John Doran serves as Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Health at Technological University Dublin, holding a PhD in Physics from Trinity College Dublin. He joined the institution (formerly Dublin Institute of Technology) in 1996 as a physics lecturer and progressed through leadership roles including Assistant Head of School (2003) and Head of the School of Physics, Clinical & Optometric Sciences (2009), before being awarded a professorship in 2017.
His research expertise centers on:
- Quantum semiconductor structures and nanomaterials
- Solar energy technology applications
- Plasmonic enhancement of photovoltaic systems
Professor Doran has secured major research funding from European Union Framework Programmes, Irish Research Council, European Space Agency, and Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
