About
Dr. John Danial is a Lecturer in Biophotonics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of St Andrews. He develops novel instrumentation and computational methods for single-molecule and super-resolution microscopy to study cellular complexes and neurodegenerative diseases.
His research focuses on visualizing molecular architecture in biological systems, including kinetochores, pore-forming proteins, and pathological aggregates in Alzheimer's and immune disorders. The lab aims to democratize advanced imaging technologies for clinical applications.
Current projects examine amyloid-beta co-aggregation with apolipoprotein E, oligodendrocyte dysfunction in Alzheimer's, and gasdermin-mediated membrane targeting. Dr. Danial supervises PhD and MSc students in physics, chemistry, and computational fields.
