John Cox is Professor and Geology Program Coordinator in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Mount Royal University. A faculty member since 1983, he received Distinguished Faculty Awards (1994, 2012) and a Teaching Excellence Award (1995).
His geological research centers on:
- Mesozoic stratigraphy of Western Canada Sedimentary Basin
- Petroleum reservoir characterization
- Sedimentology of clastic depositional systems
Educational contributions include developing Mount Royal's BSc Geology program. Dr. Cox holds an MSc from the University of Alberta (Lead-Zinc-Gold-Silver ore deposits) and PhD from the University of Aberdeen (Stratigraphy of Bow Island Formation).
