John Chadwick was a classical philologist, lexicographer, and Linear B scholar at the University of Cambridge. He served as a University Assistant Lecturer in Classical Philology starting in 1952 and made significant contributions to the decipherment of Linear B alongside Michael Ventris. His research focused on Mycenaean Greek, Greek dialects, and lexicography.
Chadwick was instrumental in establishing the John Chadwick Greek and Latin Research Fund, which supports various projects including the Mycenaean Epigraphy Room's archival collection and the Greek Lexicon Project. He received numerous honors including the International Antonio Feltrinelli Prize in 1997.
