John Bates is a Senior Lecturer at Northumbria Law School, part of Northumbria University. He holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Leicester and a Legal Practice Course qualification from the College of Law, York. A qualified solicitor since 1997 and former Partner in a regional law firm specializing in civil dispute resolution and clinical negligence, he transitioned to academia in 2008.
