Dr. John Azure is a Lecturer in Accounting at the Essex Business School, University of Essex. His academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Aberdeen (2019), an MBA in Finance from the University of Bradford (2012), and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Coast (2004). He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Audit Principles and Practice, Current Issues in Financial Reporting, Accounting and Finance for Managers, and Professional and Academic Development.
Azure's research focuses on public financial management reforms, fiscal governance in developing economies, sustainability accountability, and critical analyses of international financial institutions. His work examines the intersection of neoliberal policies, public accountability frameworks, and development challenges in African contexts.
His publications predominantly explore themes of fiscal discipline, government resilience during crises, Sustainable Development Goal implementation, and critical examinations of World Bank reforms. Recent work demonstrates a strong focus on African governance systems and public sector accountability mechanisms.
Azure currently supervises one doctoral candidate, Ali Mahmood Buraihi Al-Aloosh, researching accounting topics. In 2023, he secured funding from the University of Essex's QR Impact Fund for the project Developing a framework for professional directors' certification in Africa.
