About
John Anderson is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Chicago and Associate Chair of his department. He is affiliated with the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and leads the Anderson Lab, which focuses on synthetic inorganic chemistry with applications in nature, energy, and materials science. His lab is actively involved in the University of Chicago Catalyst Design for Decarbonization Center.
Research Interests: The Anderson Lab investigates problems at the intersection of Inorganic Chemistry, Catalysis, and Materials Chemistry. Their work overlaps with Organic Chemistry, Spectroscopy, and Biology, emphasizing synthetic techniques for air-sensitive complexes and materials. Students are trained in NMR, UV-Vis, IR spectroscopies, and advanced methods like EPR, XAS, and magnetometry.
Lab & Team Updates: Recent news includes the recruitment of graduate students Abha Dabak-Wakankar, Ya Su, and Claire Benedict. Former lab members such as Sophie Anferov, Ningxin Jiang, and Pat Crossland have transitioned to roles at institutions like PNNL and Air Liquide. Joe Scott passed his candidacy exam, and Norman successfully defended his thesis, joining Air Liquide as an R&D Process Chemist.
