John Adams is an Honorary Teaching Fellow at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and a public-health engineer with 30 years of humanitarian sector experience. He serves as an independent consultant while delivering specialized training at Bioforce, RedR, and UNICEF, focusing on environmental health, project management, and emergency WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene) systems.
His research interests span development anthropology, environmental health, water and sanitation governance, and humanitarian leadership, with strong emphasis on social mobilisation and behaviour change in crisis contexts. Adams integrates anthropological insights into engineering solutions, particularly for emergency hygiene promotion and sanitation governance.
Adams maintains active collaborations with major humanitarian organizations through operational research and guideline development. His advisory work includes project evaluations and technical support for WHO, UNICEF, Oxfam, and Red Cross initiatives. As a trainer, he develops capacity in leadership, coordination, and emergency response methodologies across multiple institutions.
