About
Johannes Swinnen is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven, and leads the Laboratory of Lipid Metabolism and Cancer. He also directs the Lipometrix - KU Leuven Lipidomics Core Facility and the Subdivision JS - LISCO-BIOMED, while being a member of the LISCO - KU Leuven Institute for Single Cell Omics and LKI - KU Leuven Cancer Institute.
- Research Focus: Lipid metabolism in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases
- Leadership: Head of multiple research units
- Teaching: Courses on cancer treatment and biomedical research methods
Research Interests span lipidomics, cancer metabolism, and neurodegeneration, with projects targeting lipid pathways in prostate, pancreatic, and liver cancers. His recent publications in top journals demonstrate translational applications of lipid metabolism research.
Projects include:
- PRORUST (2025-2028): Exploiting lipid metabolism in prostate cancer
- Immunolipidomics (2025-2027): Developing lipid-targeted pancreatic cancer therapies
- CK2-MLX Pathway (2024-2028): Preventing liver cancer through metabolic intervention
- GRAN'PA (2025-2029): Investigating lipid homeostasis in neurodegenerative diseases
Technical Innovations focus on enhancing mass spectrometry imaging resolution. His teaching portfolio includes courses on cancer treatment, lipid metabolism in health, and biomedical research methods.
