About
Prof. Johannes Pellkofer serves as Professor for Design, Building Construction and Fundamentals of Building Services Engineering at Erfurt University of Applied Sciences, where he also holds the position of Vice Dean for Studies and Teaching. He is affiliated with the School of Architecture and Urban Planning and maintains his office at Schlüterstraße 1, Room 411.
His educational background includes a Master of Business Administration (Construction Management) from Biberach University of Applied Sciences (2012) and studies in Architecture and Design at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, where he graduated as a Diplom-Ingenieur Architect (1998-2004).
Pellkofer's research philosophy emphasizes that 'the integration of a building's load-bearing structure, function, and technology is an integral part of the architecture and completes the design.' His work explores the relationship between architectural form, function, and construction within sustainability frameworks. He teaches Building Construction I-IV courses across semesters, Project Studio courses, and Construction + Planning for Master's students.
His research specifically targets innovative facade constructions, integration of energy generation in building envelopes, and glass applications. He has led projects including the 'glass technology live' exhibitions in Düsseldorf (2014, 2016), organized the DBZ Werkgespräch symposium at the University of Stuttgart (2015), and worked on research sketches including 'Mycostructure' (mycelium-based building materials) and 'Solar Plus House' (the first thermal plus-energy residential building). He is involved in the 'ArKol' research project on flexible facade collectors for solar architecture.
Prof. Pellkofer maintains an active professional practice, having founded his architectural office in Stuttgart in 2014. Prior to his academic career, he served as Project Manager at Werner Sobek GmbH & Co.KG (2007-2013) and was a Research Associate at the University of Stuttgart's Institute of Building Construction (2013-2020).
His competition record demonstrates significant professional achievement, including multiple 1st prizes: Pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Neckar for the Rottweil State Garden Show 2028 (2024), Office building NetCom BW GmbH Ellwangen (2019), Efficiency House Plus competition (2012), and Central Bus Station ZOB Hannover (2011).
