Johanne Martel-Pelletier is a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Medicine. She holds the prestigious Chair in Osteoarthritis, co-founded with Jean-Pierre Pelletier, and leads the Osteoarthritis Research Unit at the CRCHUM. Her research focuses on understanding the pathological mechanisms of osteoarthritis, including molecular pathways of matrix degradation, inflammatory factors, and novel therapeutic strategies. She pioneered non-invasive MRI techniques for joint tissue quantification and has contributed to epidemiological studies using longitudinal cohorts.
Education: PhD in Physiology (1979, University of Montreal), postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Miami and University of Montreal. She has authored over 450 publications and 800 presentations, and serves on editorial boards of major rheumatology journals. Awards include the 2017 ACR Master, 2010 King Faisal International Prize, and 2013 Roger Demers Prize.
Grants/Advising: Active in securing multi-million grants from Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and industry, mentoring over 20 postgraduate students. Current recruitment for a postdoctoral researcher in translational osteoarthritis research.
