Johanna Gerwin is a Visiting Research Fellow (funded by the DFG) at Queen Mary University of London's School of Languages, Linguistics and Film, Department of Linguistics. Her research focuses on the sociocultural construction of London English dialects, including 'Cockney', Multicultural London English (MLE), and associated speaker identities. She examines metadiscourse in media, cultural products, and speakers' self-positioning.

Key research interests include Enregisterment theory, sociolinguistic fieldwork, and intersections between linguistics and pop culture.
