About
Johan Schrama is an Associate Professor in Aquaculture and Fisheries at Wageningen University & Research. His research focuses on fish nutrition, specifically the consequences of fishmeal replacement by plant ingredients, feed intake regulation, and digestive processes. He investigates feed-fish-system interactions in aquaculture, particularly recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
Research domains include:
- Feed intake regulation and feeding behavior
- Digestive physiology and gut health
- Nutrient requirements and metabolic studies
- Feed and ingredient evaluation
- Waste production management through nutrition
Current projects involve developing novel methods for evaluating energy of feed ingredients and sustainable aquaculture practices. He supervises multiple PhD candidates studying topics ranging from robotic locomotion in aquaculture to digital twins for fish health management.
