Johan Axhamn

Johan Axhamn is an Associate Professor at the Department of Business Law at Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM). He also serves as a Researcher at the Lund University Centre for Business Law (ACLU). His roles include course manager for Intellectual Property and Trade (HARN54), Legal Aspects of Data Analytics (DABN18), and Swedish-language Intellectual Property Law courses. He has extensive experience in teaching, supervision, and curriculum development with a focus on digital transformation's legal implications, particularly in AI, data-driven innovation, and digital markets.

Research Interests: Axhamn’s work centers on intellectual property law, market & competition law, EU law, and IT law. Key topics include legal frameworks for knowledge-based assets, AI ethics, digital markets regulation, and international treaties like the WIPO framework for genetic resources. He leads the competition, market, and media law subject group at Lund University and co-founded the FIDMA research network on fairness in digital markets and AI.

Professional Activities: As Editor-in-Chief of the Nordic Intellectual Property Law Review (NIR), he contributes to academic publishing. He has held visiting positions at Columbia Law School, University of Amsterdam, and University of Oslo. Active in policy-making, he advised the Swedish government on intellectual property matters since 2012, served as Vice Chair in EU Council working parties during Sweden’s presidencies (2009, 2023), and sits on boards of organizations like the Swedish Copyright Society and International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI).

Teaching & Supervision: Supervised over 200 theses and 2 completed doctoral dissertations. Innovates pedagogical approaches using blended assessments (written exams, oral presentations) and integrates AI policy discussions into curricula. Completed multiple pedagogical courses focusing on supervision and educational leadership.

Grants & Projects: Involved in projects like LUIP (Intellectual Property Network), AI Lund Research, and DataRätt InnoVation (DRIV). Active in over 165 professional activities including conferences, editorial roles, and policy advisory work.
