Joerg Schaefer

Joerg Schaefer is a Research Professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, part of The Earth Institute at Columbia University. He concurrently serves as an Adjunct Professor in Columbia's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and leads the Cosmogenic Dating Group, focusing on advanced geochemical techniques for studying Earth's climate history and geological processes.

His research spans Earth Sciences with emphasis on cosmogenic nuclide dating, paleoclimatology, and surface process geochemistry. This work enables high-precision reconstruction of glacial cycles, erosion rates, and landscape evolution over Quaternary timescales.
