Joel Winkelman

Joel Winkelman is an Assistant Professor of Government at Hamilton College. His work focuses on the intersection of political theory, democracy, and the workplace, with a particular emphasis on Progressive Era American political thought. He teaches courses in political theory, American political thought, and environmental politics.

Research interests include the relationship between work ethic and democratic theory, the political philosophy of Jane Addams and Herbert Croly, and the historical development of progressive ideals in American political thought. His publications explore these themes through interdisciplinary lenses combining political science, intellectual history, and labor studies.

Professional affiliations include the Association for Political Theory, American Political Science Association, and Midwest Political Science Association. Recent courses taught include Democracy and the Workplace and Political Theory and the Environment.
