Joel Vanderheyden

Joel Vanderheyden serves as Lecturer in Saxophone at Washington University's Department of Music. He holds a D.M.A. in Saxophone Performance from University of Iowa, M.M. in Jazz Studies from University of Maryland, and B.A. in Music from University of Minnesota-Morris.

An active performer, he plays with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Jazz St. Louis Big Band, and electro-jazz ensembles Koplant No and Vehachi. His teaching integrates classical and jazz traditions with contemporary performance practices.

Dr. Vanderheyden endorses Selmer saxophones and D'Addario reeds while maintaining additional appointments as Professor of Music and Director of Jazz at Jefferson College. His instructional approach emphasizes versatility across musical genres.
