Dr. Joel M. Gramling is a Professor of Plant Ecology at The Citadel's Department of Biology and serves as the Director of General Education. He also acts as Curator of the Citadel Herbarium.

He contributes to academic outreach as associate editor of Native Plants Journal and organizer of the Lowcountry Chapter of the South Carolina Native Plant Society meetings at The Citadel.
Dr. Gramling holds leadership roles in educational administration and maintains active involvement in botanical research and conservation efforts across the Carolinas.
