Dr. Joel Bacon is a Professor of Music at Colorado State University (CSU), holding the Stewart and Sheron Golden Chair in Organ and Liturgical Studies—the first endowed chair in the College of Liberal Arts—and the Fr. Don Willette Chair of Catholic Studies. He specializes in organ performance, historical musicology, and liturgical studies. His PhD from Vienna's University of Music and Performing Arts focused on organ usage in orchestral works.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Mathematics and Organ Performance from Baylor University
- Artist Diploma in Organ from Konservatorium der Stadt Wien (Vienna)
Research interests include Baroque organ techniques, liturgical music history, and interfaith musical practices. A prominent performer, he has given recitals across Europe and North America, broadcast on Austrian Radio and Public Radio International. Collaborations include recordings with Munich Philharmonic's Albrecht Rohde.
Pedagogical roles include teaching at the Oundle International Festival (UK) and American Guild of Organists workshops. Formerly served as assistant organist at St. Thomas Lutheran Church (Munich) and guest organist at Vienna's St. Augustine (Hapsburg imperial church).
